Written when Handel was just 21, his very first oratorio, Il trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno, is already brims with lyrical beauty and drama. You’ll even hear an early version of the beloved aria Lascia ch’io pianga, later immortalised in Rinaldo. The text, by Cardinal Pamphili, concerns the choices faced by Beauty: Pleasure, or the more moral Time and Disillusion.
