Acis and Galatea

Performances
Thursday 31 March at 7pm - SOLD OUT
Friday 1 April at 7pm
Saturday 2 April at 7pm

Beauty and innocence are corrupted by lust in Handel’s provocative drama about the dangers of love. The story is simple. Girl loves boy, a rival appears who wants the girl, she refuses and in a fit of passionate rage, he kills the boy.

Surrounded by the gothic beauty of the Stone Nest building, La Nuova Musica skillfully reimagines the iconic fairytale to reveal a dark truth that is familiar to us all. Through the drama of the music, we are compelled to see the best and worst of ourselves in the characters and we are confronted with the cruelty of evolution. Will the desires of the strong will forever dominate the ideals of the weak?
