Purcell’s Finest Verses
Getting back to music making
After many months without performances La Nuova Musica was delighted to get back together to make some music over the summer. David Bates was joined by Tim Mead and Andy Staples as well as our principal string players to film a mini online series of Purcell’s Finest Verses.
We released one verse each week on Tuesday evenings throughout September and October 2020 and a ‘Director’s Cut’ film version was premiered on 12 February 2021. Tickets are still available to watch this film on demand.

Join us for a gorgeous concert of nine beautiful songs by Henry Purcell and a view into what goes into making music during these challenging times.
Purcell's Finest Verses was presented as a live event on 12 February 2021 and is now available for you to watch on demand.
The programme consists of three parts:
1. Welcome and introduction (10 minutes)
2. Purcell's Finest Verses, a concert-come-documentary of Purcell's finest songs for countertenor and tenor voice. La Nuova Musica is directed by David Bates and the soloists are Tim Mead (countertenor) and Andy Staples (tenor).
3. Post-show discussion and live recording session with the artists. Audience members were invited to ask questions to any of David Bates, Tim Mead, Andy Staples and Emily Ingram (Founder of Greengage). Then, the artists recorded and mixed a bonus performance live! See what goes into making ensemble music during these strange times.
