La Nuova Musica has established itself as one of the most distinctive voices in the early music field. Under the direction of founder and Artistic Director David Bates, LNM strives to reveal new aspects of familiar repertoire, focusing on works for voice and instrumentalists through dynamic performances of both masterpieces and lesser-known works from across the Baroque and Classical periods, alongside new commissions.

Equally at home from Monteverdi through to Mozart and beyond, LNM has appeared in prestigious festivals and concert halls across Europe, including La Seine Musicale in Paris, the Göttingen International Handel Festival, the Salzburg Festival, the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music and the Steffani Festival in Hanover, as well as festivals across England including Aldeburgh and the BBC Proms.

In London, LNM performs at major venues with a regular series of concerts at Wigmore Hall and larger-scale events at St Martin-in-the-Fields and St John's Smith Square. As a regular participant in the London Handel Festival, the ensemble has presented nine of his operas, performing Tales of Apollo and Hercules as a double bill in 2025. In autumn 2025, LNM co-produced a new production of Handel's Giustino in the Linbury Theatre at the Royal Opera House, and 2026 brought a tour of Il trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno to London, Aldeburgh, Cambridge and Fribourg, Switzerland.

Alongside regular performances of better-known composers, LNM seeks to shed light on repertoire that has languished in libraries for the past 300 years, breathing new life into forgotten compositions such as Conti's final opera, Issipile.

While its core repertoire lies between 1600 and 1800, LNM has also commissioned living composers to write new works to sit alongside it, working closely with Nico Muhly, Luke Styles, Anna Thorvaldsdóttir, Edmund Finnis and Cassandra Miller, with further commissions planned for future seasons. 

LNM has recorded extensively for Harmonia Mundi and Pentatone. The ensemble's latest disc, Purcell's Dido and Aeneas, released in autumn 2023, has gathered outstanding reviews and awards across Europe. BBC Radio 3's CD Review named it their Recording of the Week, praising how it "zings off the page" with dramatic energy from the first bars, while Gramophone included it among its recordings of the year, calling it a performance that "shows Bates and his ensemble at their best."

Earlier releases on the Pentatone label include 'Handel's Unsung Heroes', in which the spotlight falls on the obbligato instrumentalists who duet virtuosically alongside their singing counterparts in masterpieces from Rinaldo, Giulio Cesare, Agrippina and Ariodante.
