Our name is taken from Giulio Caccini's treatise of 1602,
Le Nuove Musiche,
which is concerned with vocal production and how best to move the affections. La Nuova Musica specializes
in early 17th-century Italian music, but also explore how the glorious music of Caccini, Monteverdi and
Grandi influenced other European composers: Schutz and Bach in Germany, Blow and Purcell in Britain
and Lully and Charpentier in France, through both vocal and instrumental repertoire. La Nuova Musica
has recently recorded the complete solo madrigals from this treatise, along with ensemble madrigals by
Claudio Monteverdi and instrumental works of the period. The disc is available for downloading at
www.magnatune.com
and is scheduled for release on Somm Records in early November 2008. To date, La Nuova Musica
has performed a wide variety of programmes in venue including: London’s Handel House, ST George’s
Church, Hannover Square,St Luke’s Church, Chelsea, St John’s Church, Notting Hill, Aldeburgh Parish
Church and Medieval Hall Salisbury Cathedral Close.
La Nuova Musica looks forward to an exciting season of concerts and recording. Purcell’s and Blow’s song and instrumental
works will be recorded for Somm Records in December with a release date in May 2009. On the concert platform
we will be joined by the international soprano Lucy Crowe at St John’s Smith Square and countertenor
Tim Mead at St. James’ Piccadilly. We travel to Aldeburgh for a residency in March, and as part
of the Easter Aldeburgh Festival we will perform Schutz' Musikalisches Exequien and Bach Motets in Blytheburgh
Church on Good Friday. In May 2009 we will play Monteverdi Vespers and Grandi motets at the Wigmore Hall and
Handel’s Acis and Galetea in the 2009 London Handel Festival with Lucy Crowe and Mark Wilde.
