Continuo Foundation Grant 2024

We are delighted to have the support of the Continuo Foundation towards our commissioning work which enables us to continue our commitment to championing the work of contemporary composers, alongside baroque masters, and to exploring parallels between the two soundworlds. The Foundation's valuable work to support and strengthen the sector makes us extremely proud to be part of the Continuo family and we look forward to working in partnership to bring high quality music-making to audiences across the UK.

Jephthah’s Daughter is a ground-breaking reinterpretation of the biblical story of Jephthah’s daughter from British/Australian composer Luke Styles, commissioned by acclaimed vocal and instrumental ensemble La Nuova Musica. This vivid retelling will explore female empowerment to ensure the work resonates with modern audiences with libretto by Jessica Walker. Styles will draw inspiration from Carissimi's Jephte, employing similar vocal and instrumental forces to create a piece that explores a contemporary baroque style. The world premiere will be performed by La Nuova Musica and a stellar cast, conducted by David Bates, at Wigmore Hall in June 2024 with future performances to follow.
